Flower Baskets Brighten Up Magnolia Park

The vivid flowers and vibrant colors of the Magnolia Park Business District logo were the real inspiration behind the district’s new “Adopt a Basket” beautification program, according to District Manager Gail Stewart.

“We were constantly seeing all those pretty flowers in the logo, and the idea for the hanging baskets just came from there,” she said.

Businesses are invited to sponsor bright, cheery flower baskets hanging from area lampposts. While each sponsor is recognized with perks such as being named on the adopted basket, listed in the district kiosk, and mentioned in Magnolia Park’s official newsletter and website, the real reward is seeing how much prettier the street looks.

“It’s really a nice touch for the area,” said Brad Korb, who has “adopted” a basket near his office. “The baskets give off good vibes. I encourage all businesses and private citizens in Burbank to adopt a basket – it’s a nice thing to do.”

Mastermind Group of Realtors Includes Brad Korb

I was one of more than 30,000 real estate professionals and guests who attended the National Association of Realtors convention in Las Vegas November 13 - 16. Many agents work hard at their profession, but few have the support and experience to close more than a handful of transactions in a year, let alone 100 transactions. I’m happy to say that I’m one of the lucky agents who does, and I am able to do so in large part because of my wonderful team and the great community of Burbank.

The folks at NAR are always looking for top-producing successful agents to make up their “mastermind” groups, which get together to collect and share ideas and tips with other agents.

At the convention in Las Vegas, I was part of the Bill Barrett Mastermind Group made up of about 50 agents – this was my second year in the mastermind meeting. We talked about what’s new and what successful agents are using in technology, media, and the internet. We shared stories and exchanged ideas in order to find out what we’re doing correctly, what we’re doing differently, and to bring it all to the table so we can tell our counterparts around the country.

As a result, they’ll be able to serve their clients better. That’s not just good for them and their clients, it’s good for everybody!

Brad Korb Achieves ‘Star’ Status in Real Estate Industry!

When Howard Brinton called me in late November to ask if I would consider being a “Star” in his Star Power Club, I was extremely gratified in several ways.

First, I felt very honored that Howard would want to add me to what is a pretty short list of agents, only twelve agents each year out of more than a million Realtors across the US and Canada, that he considers successful enough to be featured in his Star Power Club interviews. Howard is one of the best known real estate educators and motivational speakers in the world. Agents featured in Star Power are among the top one percent in North America. They typically close more than 200 transactions per year -- the national average is 12 transactions per year -- and enjoy sharing their ideas and knowledge with up-and-coming agents.

And that’s the second reason I was so happy to be asked – because I really do love to share ideas with other agents because I’ve learned and continue to learn so much from other successful agents around the country. I make it a point to meet and spend time with them at real estate conventions and events, and it has really paid off. So I’m extremely pleased to be able to contribute to Howard’s forum, which reaches thousands of agents. Howard’s interviews are available in CDs and magazines distributed to real estate agents throughout North America who subscribe to his Star Power Club. He began the series in 1989 as part of his very successful seminars, motivational presentations, and education systems for the real estate industry.

Third, I’m especially gratified that the ways my team and I have kept up with the dynamic real estate industry have proven to be successful enough to get Howard’s attention. We’ve done and continue to do many innovative things to market the Brad Korb Team and to be the best we can be for our clients and the community. Every month, our private newspaper, Burbank Bulletin, provides a free outlet for local non-profit and community organizations to announce events and publicize themselves. We have a moving truck available to our clients. We are constantly refining and improving our Team structure and defining positions so the Team can truly cater to each and every client in a tailor-made fashion.

Those are just a few examples of the things we do to improve our service and standing in the community and with our clients. I’m very proud to say that I’m now seeing my second generation of clients – I’ve been in Burbank since 1979. I genuinely treasure the many sincere testimonials that I’ve received from clients over the years. One of Howard’s most important requirements of his “Stars” is that they have demonstrated integrity throughout their careers. My clients and Howard have shown that they have confidence and trust in me – and that’s maybe the most gratifying thing of all.

Girl Scouting ‘Strong’ In Burbank

There are about 7,000 Girl Scouts in the San Fernando Valley. Although SFVGS Director of Communications and Development Kimberlie Nitti can’t say exactly how many are from Burbank, she can say that this town has a reputation for producing many excellent Scouts.

“Senior Girl Scouting is strong in Burbank – we have a lot of girls out there who are getting their Gold Awards,” she said.

Senior Girl Scouts are 11th and 12th grade girls; the Gold Award is the highest available in Girl Scouting. To earn one, a Senior Girl Scout must choose a community service project that will endure beyond her involvement. For example, one Senior Girl Scout recently earned a Gold Award for creating a program that supplies local fire departments with oxygen masks for pets so firefighters can save them from smoke inhalation.

“The girls have to raise the money through donations, document how it’s spent, carry out the logistics of setting the program up, and more. They must put in at least 65 hours, but they always put in much more,” said Nitti.

In Burbank, Senior Girl Scout Kelcey Soderstrom made news in March by being the Girl Scouts’ San Fernando Valley representative at an Advocacy Day in Sacramento. There, she successfully lobbied against “alcopops,” sugary alcoholic drinks that are dangerously popular with minors. They have since been reclassified so they can be more easily kept out of the hands of minors.

Energy-Smart Lights Brighten Korb's Offices

Light has been shining more efficiently on members of the Brad Korb Team since early October, when energy-saving light bulbs were installed throughout Korb’s offices. According to Office Manager Heather Tyler, the project was done in cooperation with the City of Burbank and Burbank Water & Power’s Energy Solutions Program, which offers local businesses partial rebates for the cost of the new bulbs.

“The energy savings are expected to pay for the cost of the replacement within a year and a half,” said Tyler. “It’s a great program that will help make Burbank much more energy-efficient.”

For more information about how the program assists businesses in being more energy-efficient, call 818-238-3638. Private residences can also benefit from the city’s programs. For example, BWP has a Home Rewards Rebate program for energy-smart appliances ranging from ceiling fans, pool pumps, and air conditioners to dishwashers, clothes washers, and refrigerators. Call 818-238-3730 for details, and check here for energy-saving tips.

Free Bee Movie Screening A Big Hit With Korb Clients

In 2005, I decided to thank my past clients by renting a theater at AMC 6 in Burbank, and screening the nice family movie “Chicken Little.” With the help of some sponsors, I also offered free popcorn, sodas, and raffle prices to those who accepted my invitation to bring the kids for a fun matinee. About 75 people showed up and had a great time.

Last year, I did the same with the movie “Happy Feet.” More than 125 people came. On Nov. 3 this year, I put on a free family matinee of the popular animated hit “Bee Movie – and about 210 people took me up on the offer!

That means attendance has almost doubled each time – now my biggest challenge is that I may have to get two theaters next year! Being this close to Thanksgiving puts me in the frame of mind where I really want to show my gratitude for 28 years of business, friendship, loyalty, and referrals from my clients. It’s my way of saying “Thanks.”

Sponsors of this year’s event included: Stephanie Storvis at Fidelity National Home Warranty; Rod Gordy and Sonia Haas at Fidelity National Title; Maskell Graphics; Academy Addressing & Mailing; La Rocca Inspections; Corcoran Coaching; Homes and Land Magazine; Burbank Leader; Custom House Publishers; Mike Smith Plumbing; Pacific Reglazing; PRC Mechanical; John Hayek at Cal National Bank; Andy Clark at City National Bank; and the Alan Pezeshkian Team at Countrywide Home Loans.
